Indiana's state flag was designed by Paul Hadley of Mooresville, Indiana in 1917. The central torch represents liberty and enlightenment, surrounded by nineteen stars to mark Indiana's place as the nineteenth state in the union. Mr. Hadley was awarded $100 for his creation.
